Fall in the Country (and out of the Country) – Part I

Something tells me that “the times they are a changin’.” Trees are changing colors and the temperature is changing as well.  Sister 2 (me) likes to spend her fall out IN the country as much as possible.  I love the colors, textures, sights and even smells of fall.  The fall colors are my kind of colors so that’s why one of my favorite collections is the Thank you, God.

Thank You, God Bread Wrap

Every season has its texture, but fall lets you bring out the wool work.  Check out the free pattern section under the brag book tab for the Holly Jolly candle mat.  Then you’ll be ready for the next season.

The smell of the country usually includes roasting pumpkin seeds from the jack-o-laterns.  First I have to convince this little doll (#12) to share her pumpkin.  Maybe I’ll have to settle for a pumpkin spice latte instead.

How does something grow sweeter every day?

The sights range from snow in September (yes, we had some) to leaves in October and family in November (they’re coming to our house).  Just can’t get enough of those grand-kids.  Little man from down the road saw the “Old McDonald’s Farm” embroidery blocks that someone had given me.  He is quite taken with animals and wanted to know what was I going to do with those blocks.  I suggested a quilt for someone who likes animals and he let me know that he didn’t have a quilt “like everyone else”.  All he had was an “old brown blanket”.  So, of course, we  got busy.

Made from left over fabric from his room so we pieced the pieces in order to have enough.

Because I really have been keeping up with the Fight the Chaos Fridays each month I have a huge pile of 2.5″ square.  Little man from ACROSS the country (California) says he wants a “Minecraft” quilt.  That really will be a change for me!

Apparently, Sister 1 took a different look at fall and the changing times and seasons. She went OUT of the country instead.  Her travels included other colors, textures, sights and smells. Part II of this blog post coming soon. (as soon as she unpacks)

So where has the fall season taken you? Hopefully to the sewing room where you can include some wonderful fall colors and textures.

Plan Ahead!

CO Sister id tag

The best intentions pave the way to …  well in my case they lead to panic!  I know I’m not the only one who does it (because even my sister does).  I’m not alone in my procrastination.  They even make a sign to tell you to plan ahead.  It didn’t really print so well but gets the idea across.  I’m putting away the unfinished 4th of July project (until June of 2017) and I AM planning ahead for fall.  Maybe because it reminds me of cooler temps!

tempI got out fabrics for the whole color palette and just feel cooler touching fabric of the yellow-orange-gold to brown color family.  OK, so they really aren’t in the same color family but it all says fall to me.  If you are looking for inspiration to begin  a project, check out our Etsy store here.  I’m going to start with the smaller items first (casserole cover and bread wrap) and work toward dressing up the table.

Don’t you love those pilgrim figures?  They are the cutest!  I just wanna put on that hat and buckles on my shoes.  Guess I’ll settle for the apron.  I’m not sure I’m ready for the whole primitive life style thing.  final TG apron photo for printing

If I’m ready and the bread is ready to eat, let’s take a look at the table.  The cutest combo would be a runner in the middle and mats along the edge.  Oh wait, we have that too.TG table runner

The thermometer isn’t going the direction I recommend yet but I’m feeling “thankful” that it is coming soon and I’ll be better prepared.  Besides I heard that this heat wave should be treated like a blizzard.  You just bury yourself in the sewing room and don’t come out.  While you’re in there, you might want to start on a wool project that won’t make you overheat-like this fall runner.  Use those vintage orphan blocks or make a new one on your own.  Blooming Fall runner for printing

Last but not least, if you only have a moment between swim lessons and mowing, then check out the free coaster pattern under the brag book tab in our PS Projects.  Happy Fall, Ya’ll.

It’s a wrap…on summer!

CO Sister id tagMy favorite time of year is fast approaching.  FALL! I love everything about it.  Colors, sights, sounds, temperatures, smells and of course FAMILY.  We celebrate four birthdays in the month of September alone and then six more in October and yes, even three more in November!  (None of them are mine, thank goodness.)

Speaking of sights & smells brought to mind the bounty that fall brings.  My little apple tree in the back yard has gone from this

Dear DIL and I will be making applesauce tomorrow as well as Grandma Evelyn’s apple butter for muffins this winter.  It only gets better as you can see by the produce DH brought home (sorry, no garden here as I’m too busy quilting).

I’m not trying to make your mouth water but if you are feeling like I am, it is time to wrap up summer and get out the fall decor. We recommend that you begin with the Sisters At Heart Miles Apart pillow wraps for fall. Get ready to cozy up with a cup of cider and quilt on the last of the 4 seasonal segments of the Seasons at My Window collection.

The patterns are individual wraps so you’ll have time to do one before the month is ready to change.    Seasons-autumn-wrap-

Or stitch them all together in the Seasons at My Window wall hanging.Seasons-autumn-window-

You probably got the hint that I’m so ready to wrap up summer and ready to get into fall –

ready to work with wool (as in the text of the wall hanging)

ready to do some handwork

ready to do a show in Colorado at the end of September ( Hope to see you at Quilt-a-Fair in Longmont in September.)

AND I’m really ready for some birthday cake.  (Did I mention that sister’s birthday is in the fall?)
