I love it when I see someone take a really good idea and add their own touch to make it even more special. I also love it when someone steps up to Do What They Can. That was just the case at Nancy’s Notions Sewing Weekend when I met Kathy Rankin from Waukesha, Wisconsin.
She has a precious little boy in her life with some special challenges due to Shaken Baby Syndrome (which is more accurately cited as Abusive Head Trauma). Fixing those challenges is beyond her, but she determined to help in some way. So, she made an I SPY quilt to give him a focusing game.
You probably know that an I SPY quilt is made from a collection of fabrics, each of which has an object to find (SPY).
Kathy added another element – a neat little book that give directions to her special little guy, including a scan of the block she wants him SPY. This multiplies the focusing benefits and will encourage him toward books.
She also added a sweet little label on the back to document the origins of the quilt.
I think we can say that we SPY a great idea, and a wise quilter! Bravo, Kathy!
